Two participated in the Self-Transcendence 2 mile Tjarnarhlaup race last Tuesday, March 15, both of which set a personal record
Íslenska More pictures here Fleiri myndir hér It seems as though the Self-Transcendence 2 mile Tjarnarhlaup race has become a club for only those runners in the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team Iceland who are intent on setting a new personal record. Last week three out of five runners set a personal record. This week both runners set a new personal record. Andrés was the first of those two, finishing at 11:24, which is a new year's best time for him, beating his previous year's best, last week's 12:01, by 37 seconds! Moreover, this time is only 4 seconds away from Andrés' personal best, 11:20, which came on September 14, and 42 seconds away from the Tjarnarhlaup race record, 10:42, which Snatak set on August 14 (unfortunately, a report from this race is unavailable on the web). It is your faithful reporter's prophecy that Andrés should not only have every chance of setting a new personal record, but a fair chance of setting a new Tjarnarhlaup race record as the day lengthens in Reykjavík. It is ironic that Ágúst came last in this race, despite setting a new personal record, 14:21! This just shows the high level of performance in the Tjarnarhlaup races these days. Ágúst improved his previous personal best, 14:24 - set on March 1, by 3 seconds. Ágúst should have every chance of improving his time even further. It should, therefore, be exciting to watch these two runners in the coming races. Results (1-mile split time shown in brackets):
