Despite all the thawing out that's been going on for the last few days, the three runners who participated in the Self-Transcendence 2 mile Tjarnarhlaup race last Tuesday, January 25, found themselves faced with slippery surfaces here and there; especially in the Hljómskáli garden.

The times were unusually poor this time and it seems that the slippery surfaces cannot take all the blame.  Rather, it seems like this is the result of an unhealthy Christmas diet on the runners' part.

However, let us not forget that the present races are being held in January, one of the two cruelest months of the year (the other being February).

Nevertheless, fans of the 2 mile Tjarnarhlaup races have come to expect the runners (their heroes) to perform against all odds, to improve their times despite the winter weather.  And it is true that one of the principles of the runners of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, who are deeply affected by the teachings of team founder Sri Chinmoy, is not to give up but to go deep within, harness the strength that therein lies and try and bring that strength to the surface to do good deeds.

Therefore, it would not be entirely surprising if one of the runners managed to set a personal record next week, although we would do well to curb our expectations for the time being.

And, on a curious note: Rúnar Páll's time was exactly the same as in the run on November 2nd.
